What the hell is Ditch the Tiara?

Redefining the word beautiful...one dirty, sweaty, bruised up mile at a time, with a few downward dogs along the way...

Long run.

Another week down, another long run to go.  After yesterday's spontaneous rest day, I was definitely ready to get moving this morning.  It was another gorgeous Colorado winter morning - in the 30s, sunny, simply perfect running conditions.   Same goal this week - 18 miles at a 9:30 pace on the same course as last week's.  Here is how it all shook out [as compared to last week:]

Mile 1 = 9:22, 9 seconds faster

Mile 2 = 9:21, 17 seconds faster
Mile 3 = 9:37, 10 seconds faster
Mile 4 = 9:24, 9 seconds slower
Mile 5 = 9:30, 2 seconds slower
Mile 6 = 9:23, 10 seconds faster
Mile 7 = 9:26, 2 seconds faster
Mile 8 = 9:22, 24 seconds faster
Mile 9 = 9:25, 23 seconds faster
Mile 10 = 9:28, 2 seconds faster
Mile 11 = 9:26, 13 seconds slower
Mile 12 = 9:22, 5 seconds slower
Mile 13 = 9:31, 11 seconds faster
Mile 14 = 9:26, 12 seconds slower
Mile 15 = 9:25, 16 seconds faster
Mile 16 = 9:17, 5 seconds slower
Mile 17 = 9:26, 12 seconds slower
Mile 18 = 9:16, 2 seconds faster

Average pace = 9:25 per mile, 4 seconds faster

It's good for me to see the data and know that what I'm doing in between these long runs is working.  I also know that I gain speed as I go further in distance.  I clearly need to slow it down a bit in those first few miles and 'bank the speed' so to speak.  Next week's 'run is "short" at 15 miles and I expect myself to run it even faster.  For now, the Garmin is still beloved and my focus remains the same.

Nice blog. Garmins are addictive for data junkies.
